Fermanagh is a place of water - and wonder. With so much water everywhere you go, you can expect to get wet at some of the many events going on in and around the county.
But it’s all part of the fun, and there’s a lot of that.
Get the right angle on angling in Enniskillen - April
Enniskillen is Northern Ireland’s angling capital, and one of the world’s foremost coarse angling destinations. By coarse angling, we’re talking roach, rudd, perch, bream, pike and hybrids. The shoals of roach and bream that move through the River Erne are legendary, and each April sees hundreds of coarse anglers descend upon the riverbanks and lakeshores for the annual Classic and Mahons festivals. You don’t have to be a dedicated or even casual angler to get swept up in the atmosphere and buzz in the town centre.
From a festival of the mind - July
Fermanagh also plays host to the world’s only festival dedicated to Nobel Prize for Literature winner Samuel Beckett. The famously existentialist playwright, poet and novelist attended Portora Royal School in Enniskillen, and each July academics, critics and fans come together to debate and celebrate the great man’s literature and legacy.
… to a festival of golf - September
Lough Erne Resort is the place to be in late September for the Fermanagh Lakelands Festival of Golf - three days of golf spread across three magnificent courses, finished off with a gala dinner in the renowned hotel itself. Daily and overall prizes keep things competitive and interesting!
Festival Lough Erne - September
Enniskillen Castle is the venue for the annual Festival Lough Erne held over a September weekend, which is literally a feast for the whole family to enjoy. Fine food and drink is showcased with cookery demonstrations and stalls, alongside face-painting, street entertainers, watersports sampling, live bands, free river tours and more.
Then there’s the Gravel Grinder. The what? - October
The Gravel Grinder is Ireland’s only long distance gravel cycling challenge. In the picturesque region of Belcoo, the routes – Big Dog 100k and Little Dog 50k – will sweep through seven UNESCO heritage forests with up to 1880 metres of elevation, while providing stunning views of countryside and even a Game of Thrones® film set.
Another adventurous challenge is FEARmanagh, a multi-sport competition consisting of three sporting disciplines: cycling, trail running and kayaking in the month of September.
That’s just the start of what’s going on in Fermanagh. For more, take a look through our blogs and directory and check out what other events are right up your street.
