The Open is golf’s original Championship and in July of 2019 it returned to Northern Ireland where it was hosted at Royal Portrush Golf Club. From 14-21 July 2019, the eyes of the world were on Northern Ireland’s biggest ever sporting event as The Open was contested outside Scotland and England for just the second time in the Championship’s history.
237,750 fans arrived in the seaside town of Portrush on the world-famous Causeway Coastal Route to witness some of the world’s best golfers compete for the Claret Jug. They watched on as Shane Lowry won the coveted trophy previously won by Northern Ireland heroes Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke and Fred Daly.
The impact of the event was monumental and future events will build upon the overwhelming success of its staging in 2019. Keep an eye on here and sign up to our newsletter for more information and updates on events.
