About

The Archive and Genealogy Service of Derry City Council has responsibility for the preservation of the civic records of the Council and its predecessor, the Londonderry Corporation, and for the development of the genealogy database at www.derry.rootsireland.ie

The archive and genealogical collection constitutes an extremely valuable source of information both for the history of the City and the Council. The collections provide a comprehensive record of significant socio-economic and political development within the City from the latter half of the seventeenth century to the present day. The archive collection includes minute books, legal documents, architectural drawings and a limited photographic collection. We also acquire and preserve private collections. This material ranges from entire business archives, literary collections, railway and maritime collections and political documents.

The Genealogy database includes over one million records from 1642-1922 accessible online in partnership with the Irish Family History Foundation.

Appointments are recommended with the Archivist and the Genealogist.
