Nestled on the outskirts of Ballymena, Ecos Nature Park is a tranquil escape into Northern Ireland's natural wonders. This 220-acre park offers a perfect blend of serene landscapes, thriving wildlife, and outdoor adventures, making it an ideal spot for families, nature enthusiasts, and adventure seekers alike. 

With over 8km of scenic walking and cycling paths, visitors can explore the park’s rich tapestry of woodlands, wetlands, and meadows. Stroll along the peaceful banks of the Braid River or lose yourself in the colourful wildflower meadows that change with the seasons. Birdwatchers will be delighted with sightings of rare species, while photographers will find endless opportunities to capture the park’s unspoiled beauty. 

The park is also home to a range of eco-friendly initiatives, offering a glimpse into sustainability and conservation efforts.

Woodland Paths and Open Meadows

 Visitors can stroll through well-maintained trails, passing by scenic woodlands, open meadows, and wildflower areas. The park’s trails are suitable for all ages and fitness levels. 

River Walk

 There is a picturesque lake at the heart of the park, home to an array of bird species. The lakeside offers tranquil views, perfect for walking, jogging, or simply enjoying the surroundings. 

Some of the main trails, particularly those around the lakes and through the woodland areas, are suitable for wheelchair users and individuals with limited mobility. These paths are wide, flat, and surfaced with smooth materials. There are benches and rest spots along the trails to ensure that visitors can take breaks if needed.

  • Picnic Area - Picnic areas and open spaces ideal for family outings are available within the park.
  • Tea-room/Cafe onsite - ‘The Secret Garden Café’ is located in the grounds of Ecos Nature Park operating 7 days a week, providing refreshments alongside hot and cold food. All food is made by onsite chefs using locally sourced produce with all cakes, pastries and deserts created and baked in-house. Open Monday - Friday 9-5pm and Saturday and Sunday open 10-5pm. Times can shorten during the winter months.

  • Toilets - Accessible toilets with disabled access and baby changing facilities are available on site and located within the Ecos Hub located close to the car park.

Road Directions

Ecos Nature Park is about a 40-minute drive from Belfast via the M2 motorway. Take the exit toward Ballymena/Broughshane from the M2, and follow signs to ECOS Centre.

Public Transport Directions

Take a train to Ballymena Train Station. From Ballymena Station, ECOS Nature Park is a 5-minute drive or a 25-30 minute walk.

You can take a bus from Belfast’s Grand Central Station to Ballymena. The journey takes about an hour. Local buses from Ballymena town centre, such as routes that stop near the Broughshane Road area, can bring you closer to the park.
