Discover the story of Northern Ireland during the Second World War. 

The Northern Ireland War Memorial (NIWM) is an engaging and welcoming accredited museum that provides a window on Northern Ireland's key role in the Second World War and the impact on its people. From the Belfast Blitz to the American presence, the Ulster Home Guard and the role of women and industries, find out what life was like during the war years.

The museum offers a range of family events, as well as workshops and talks for primary schools and community groups. To find out more, please visit their website: www.niwarmemorial.org.

The NIWM is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4:30pm and every Saturday from 12 noon to 4pm.  Free admission, no booking required.

Museum Saturdays: Visit the NIWM on a Saturday between 12:00 - 16:00 for family craft activities inspired by the museum collection. Listen to music from the 1940s, dress up in wartime uniforms and weight out a weekly ration of sweets (just 2oz.) to take home. All ages welcome.

Guided Tours: The NIWM also offer guided tours of the museum upon request. Tours can be tailored to the interest and needs of the group. Outreach talks are also available.

  • Toilets for disabled visitors - Accessible toilets are located at the back left-hand side of the museum gallery. Baby Change Facilitates are located within the accessible toilet. The NIWM don't have a Changing Places toilet on-site. The nearest Changing Places toilet is located at CastleCourt Shopping Centre.

The Northern Ireland War Memorial is located in the Cathedral Quarter of Belfast opposite Belfast Cathedral approximately 1.3 miles from Belfast City Hall. 

Turning down from Donegall Street, the NIWM is a red brick building on the right-hand side of the road.
