About

Portadown is steeped in a rich industrial and cultural history dating back over 400 years. Join us on a journey as we guide you through a living culture and colourful past, learning the history of a once thriving market town.

Our Basic Town Tour looks at the town from Plantation through to the Industrial and Commerce History. Visitors have the opportunity to immerse in the heritage of the local buildings. The Tour takes visitors through the buildings of the town with historical significance. Our guides also cover the impressive history of the Waterways and Railways.

As visitors are guided through the historical journey and development of Portadown, they will discover the once thriving market town and its Christian heritage, as we cover the places of worship of a number of denominations. Also, the guides will concentrate on the centre stage of the town with detail on the War Memorial, Saunderson's Statue and the Obelisk.

The Tour finishes on the banks of the Riverbank for the final instalment of the tour. The guides will talk about the influence of the waterways on the town and the historical events which have centred around the River Bann, including the 1641 Massacre.

Tour lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes

Our Intensive Town Tour explores the town from Plantation and looks in detail at a number of industrial and commerce heritage sites. Visitors have the opportunity to explore the streets in much more detail and the guides will showcase the towns hidden history.

The intensive tour also looks at the sites of buildings which are no longer there but explores their important history. This tour is designed for those that love history and covers the basics and much more. The Railway and Waterway Heritage is also covered in great detail.

Tour lasts approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes
