Mid-Ulster is home to some wild open spaces and beautiful countryside. As well as running amok in the Sperrin Mountains or the glorious Gortin Glen, kids can have great fun at the many forest parks, theme parks and picnic areas in this part of the world.

Find your home from home

Before you get stuck into everything that Mid-Ulster has to offer, you’ll need to find a place to rest those weary heads at the end of each action filled day.

You’ll get cosy rooms and creature comforts at the award-winning Corick Country House Hotel and Spa (4*) or Glenavon House Hotel (3*) in County Tyrone, while there’s a rich assortment of self-catering and B&B properties right across the region.

An Creagan

An Creagán in Omagh is top notch and with cycle ways and walking trails, it is an ideal location for some family fun. Blessingbourne Courtyard Apartments in Fivemiletown are another excellent option and they’ll even let you bring the dog. For something that little bit different, Sperrin View Glamping offers a unique site located at the foothills of the Sperrin Mountains. Special see-through pods allow you to lie in bed and gaze up at the stars.

Make time for adventure in Todd’s Leap

Don’t get too comfortable though, you’ll need to get them out and about if you want to make the most of this beautiful part of Northern Ireland. Get the day off to a flying start on a zip line or a giant swing at Todds Leap, in Ballygawley, County Tyrone.

Archery at Todds Leap

With more than twenty outdoor activities, this place is one for adrenaline junkies and any would-be acrobats. Even when you’re not swinging through the air, your feet will hardly touch the ground here.

Go wild in Gortin Glen

At the western gateway to the Sperrin Mountains, a visit to Gortin Glen Forest Park is a great way to appreciate the countryside of Mid Ulster. Follow a waymarked trail through this beautiful area while you can let the older kids out on a canoe on Gortin Lakes. If you’re more of a two-wheel family then nearby Davagh Forest Park has numerous great bike trails that you can bob and weave through.

The Argory

You can mix it all up a little with a bit of learning at The Argory in Dungannon, County Tyrone. A beautiful neo-classical mansion, find out more about the house inside before getting out into the lovely woodland and riverside walk. Kids will love the adventure playground and sculpture trail.

Revisit the past at the Ulster American Folk Park
